Pauline & Dean Young
Pauline was born in Tampa, Texas. She graduated fro Dos Palos High School in Dos Palos, CA in 1963. Pauline was a professional seamstress until she went to work for the school district in Los Banos where she still works today. Pauline started out at part-time help and has worked her way up the Director of Classified Personnel. She has been with the school district for 37 years. Pauline has been involved with CFMA for many years. She was a director in 1981, 1982, & 1987. She became secretary in 1984, 1985, 1988 & 1989. In 1991 she was again secretary and has held that position to this day. If you need to find some information on CFMA and it's past she will find it. Pauline is invaluable to the President of this organization. Dean was born in Oakland, CA. He graduated from Dos Palos High School in 1958. Dean joined the Army in 1963. After boot camp he was stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. From there on to Germany. After the Army Dean returned to Dos Palos and went back to work as a fireman. From there he went to Merced County Fire and then with CDF which took over Merced Fire. Dean retired on March 31, 1992 after 30 years in the fire service with the rank of Battalion Chief. Dean was part of the very first meeting on the forming of CFMA. In 1976 he became Vice President and in 1977 the President of CFMA. He was President again in 1984 & 1985. He was a director in 1979, 1980, 1983, 1991, 1994, 1997 through 2004 & again in 2009. He was Vice President in 2005 through 2008. In the early 1980's Pauline and Dean started organizing the annual October meeting. Pauline and Dean are honorary life members of CFMA. Here are a couple of interesting stories. Pauline and Dean met at a baseball game in Dos Palos. Dean had made the smart ass remark to her and his friends that he didn't want to go out with her because she didn't know how to darm socks. Turns out she did and did just that and took them to the fire station - guess Dean figured he better marry her. They were married on December 29, 1963. They moved to Los Banos in 1969. And when their kids, Sarah and Dewayne were planning their weddings, they had to make sure they weren't on a week-end of a fire muster - Pauline and Dean might not show up. When their first grandchild was due to be born they were off at a muster in Bakersfield. Sure enough their first grandchild came along while they were at a muster. Pauline drove home after the competition on Saturday, met her new grandson and drove all the way bac that night/morning so she could be back in time for competition on Sunday. That was in 1987. These two have given so much of their time and love to CFMA. They are truly dedicated to keeping this organization going. Thank you both so much. We LOVE YOU. |
